Artist Statement : Scott Phillips
In the process of experience we often store
information in our short and
or long-term memory. In doing so we gain a catalog of items detailed
in a relative format that we later retrieve from memory. Upon retrieval
we
relate our experience to current situations that too have short and lasting
effects. My investigation is a visual exploration of my everyday
encounters
with experience in relation to my recalled memory. I use paint as
a
transformative element while enabling my use of object to work between
the realms of two and three-dimensional pieces, between memory and
situation. In doing so, I question what it is to be object relative
to current
situation. The duality of paint and object, memory and experience,
accentuates the visceral, immediate and long-term responses I
am investigating.
